Explaining the choice of Airtel among other platforms, Adesina disclosed that the Promo was designed  with the concept of winning smartphones every day, of which Airtel is a Smartphone network. “The choice of Airtel was by default,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, an Assistant Director of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, a Federal Government agency established by an Act of 2005 to regulate lottery business in Nigeria, who was there to witness the prize giving ceremony  gave credit to the Technotrend Nigeria Limited promo, stating that "right from the regulation, draw and prize presentations, the processes was  transparent".

NiRA Bloggers Summit: Maiden edition in October 2018.

Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA), the custodian of the .ng Country Code Top Level Domain Name is organising a Bloggers Summit.
NiRA Bloggers Summit is a one-day gathering of Nigerian bloggers.

The Summit is aimed at bringing together the blogging community and stakeholders in Nigeria to learn, network, and cultivate their presence in the online community.

There would be educational sessions, brand events, influencer interactions, and sessions on monetizing blogs, working with brands as a senior influencer and discussions on other topical issues such as legal impact of online payment, blogging about the society and individuals, etc.

The maiden event is scheduled to hold October 18, 2018.

The Nigeria ICT RoadMap: Building the pathway forward.



In an effort by the Ministry of Communications to deepen the penetration and administration of the Information Communication Technology in Nigeria, various stakeholders were invited for a sensitization workshop. The focus was on the role of the Private Sector.

The workshop was moderated by the CEO of TLDS, Principal Partner on Local Content Diplomacy (LCD). The new Permanent Secretary of the Ministry welcomed the participants to the workshop and highlighted a few points on the need for the workshop.

The Minister of Communications delivered his keynote address and the official launch of the Roadmap. He invited the stakeholders and participants to engage the ministry on the need to develop policies, guideline and ensure that the spirit of the roadmap is achieved on or before the year 2020. Recall that the document was muted and conceived in 2016 at a Sector Retreat, which identified seven (7) key lessons. The Roadmap is expected to be galvinesd by four (4) pillars to achieve the objectives of the ICT Roadmap.

Major stakeholders called on the need for government to address a policy on reduce the tax on local content service-providers and create initiatives to promote low price with global standard. Key request was the creation of a Standing Order to protect all ICT Infrastructure as Critical National Assets.

ICTLOCA called on ICT Local Content Members to report any erring MDAs to enable it fulfill its mandate on monitoring the implementation of Local Content from a Private Sector Perspective and ensure that Private Sector Companies who  deal with government comply with the guidelines for Local Content Development in ICT 2013 and other similar legislation of government.

The Minister called on stakeholders to take advantage of his open door policy to digest available documents on the Ministry website (www.commtech.gov.ng) and send their responses to the secretariat for action.

NiRA .ng Awards 2018: Celebrating achievements and innovation.

Receiving the Award on behalf of Dr. Adeola Odeyemi, recipient of the NiRA Special Recognition Award. 

A weeks ago, Custodian of the National Resource on the internet celebrated the history and culture of productive Private-Public-Partnership to show off its commitment in raising the bar of the country online, not only in Africa but across the globe. ChangeWebTV was in attendance and was proud to have played a role in the history of NiRA, managers of the .ng ccTLD. This was a National Success to the Executive and Secretariat of the Association. 

Recall that the first of such registry over the world to make available its top-level available was the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA), emulated a year after by NOMINET of United Kingdom, managers of the .uk and South Africa (.za). Many first have steamed from the Leadership of this laudable association since inception in 2005. A rich history worthy of celebration.

On Friday, July 6, 2018 at the prestigious Celebration Gardens and Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos with nominees across Nigeria. It was the third (3rd) series of the .ng Awards.It was an avenue to celebrate the achievements and innovation of Nigerian Internet initiatives.

The awards was designed to promote Nigerian businesses, individuals, charity, public and private sector organizations which help to make the Internet a more secure, open, accessible and rewarding experience for all.

Over a period of several months, the General Public was encouraged to nominate and vote for worthy companies who are using the .ng domain name for their businesses and have promoted the .ng brand.

This culminated into the night of history and fun, recognition of people and profiles such as the father of Computer in Nigeria, Dr.Adeola Odeyemi, initiator of Debis Computer and currently CEO of Verit Herbal Limited. He was represented Shina Badaru, CEO of Technology Times and member of the Board of Trustee and Adebunmi Adeola Akinbo, Otunba Local Content and CEO of KOBOKINGs Limited. Dr. Odeyemi got the Presidential Award tagged the NiRA Special Recognition Award.

Another award worthy of mention is the enormous contribution of the Guardian Newspaper to clinch the Presidential Award tagged the NiRA Best Supporting Media Partner. Guardian Newspaper stands out from inception in celebrating the .ng Award to the Nigerian Community, online and print. It also walked away with the NiRA Best Print Media Award. A double honors well deserved. 

The .ng Awards organised by NiRA does not attract any monetary value and no sponsorship or donation is required from nominees and winners since inception. NiRA prides itself in setting global standard while making local impact.

NIGF 2018 holds in Abuja.

The Multi-stakeholders Advisory Group (MAG) of the Nigeria Internet Governance Forum (NIGF), comprising of Federal Ministry of Communications (MoC), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA), Internet Society Nigeria Chapter (ISOC), DigitalSENSE Africa Media, Creative Technology Development International (CTDL), and Global Network for Cybersolution (GNC), in collaboration with the Internet community stakeholders is hosting the special edition of NIGF 2018 scheduled to hold in Abuja.
The Venue of the special edition is Shehu Musa Yar’Ardua Conference Center while the scheduled date is July 3rd, 2018. The overarching theme is ‘‘Internet as Enabler for Good Governance’’. The Honourable Minster of Communications, Barrister Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu, is the Special Guest of Honour, and he will declare the forum open.

The NIGF 2018 will be featuring a Pre-NIGF Youths Workshop with the theme “Internet for Opportunities, Value Creation and Empowerment” which will hold on the 2nd of July, 2018. Members of ISOC Nigeria are expected to use the platform to meet some of the Chapter Leaders within and around Abuja Environs.

The objective of NIGF 2018 is to facilitate stakeholders’ intervention on the use of Internet for the enthronement of good governance for national economic recovery; stimulate the Internet community open participation in a regional and global Internet policy dialogue on emerging Internet issues; and engage stakeholders toward effective monitoring of the implementation of National Economic & Growth Plan and Sustainable Development Goals.

The forum is expected to achieve the following outcomes:
i. Stakeholders would be informed with ideas, solutions and interventions relevant for addressing good governance in their various communities.
ii. Provide common approaches and stakeholders’ consensus for impact good governance policies on national economy, development and security.
iii. Opportunity for Internet governance policy public hearing and open consultative process in response to the regional and global IGF demand for local inclusion.
iv. Stimulate government and stakeholders’ commitment to the adoption and implementation of the outcome document.
v. Strengthen stakeholders’ partnership for the improvement of local IG process
vi. Empower the youth for greater Internet productivity and innovations
vii. Harmonize the local multi-stakeholder positions, input and contributions into the regional and global Internet Governance Forum.

The NIGF 2018 would be taking into consideration the overarching theme of the global IGF and harmonizing the inputs of Nigerian stakeholders into the Regional Global IGF framework covering: Cybersecurity and Trust; Internet Economy; Access, Inclusiveness and Diversity; Openness; Enhancing Multi-stakeholder Cooperation; Critical Internet Resources; and Emerging Issues.

The Secretariat of NIGF and the Multi-stakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) have concluded arrangement to make this year edition more significant in addressing the national issues and open to stakeholders with the opportunities to share, discuss, and collaborate together towards addressing critical national challenges on Internet governance, policies and contentious Internet issues currently treading and affecting stakeholders in the country.

In the past six years, NIGF has evolved into an inclusive Internet policy dialogue mechanism contributing to national development. 2018 is another significant year for NIGF, a time the citizens are demanding more commitment on good governance, as the country election machinery moves gradually towards 2019. This year is the period when stakeholders are examining government commitment to its responsibility and accountability in its implementation of a multi-year national economic recovery and growth plan, when the world is readjusting to EU general data protection regulations (GDPR) and massive breaching of facebook social media data for political gains, amidst growing call for data protection governance and cybersecurity.

The NIGF provides coordinated response through discussions, interactions, contributions and exchange of ideas on challenging and emerging policy issues concerning the Internet and Nigeria Internet community. It offers a national platform for stakeholders from Governments, Civil Society, Businesses, Technical Community, Academia, development partners and multinational corporation operating in the Nigerian Internet ecosystem to come together, harness ideas, build consensus and offer collective solutions for Internet governance issues in Nigeria.

Building on these commitments, Nigeria Internet Governance Process continues to provide a regional IG benchmark which has inspired other national IG initiatives in ECOWAS sub region and Africa.

.ng Awards: NiRA extends nomination deadline.

In a Press Released to the public, the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) has decided to extend the Nomination period for the 2018 .ng Awards to ensure active participation of all stakeholders.

In its realise, NiRA appreciated the active role(s) the general public is playing in developing the DNS industry in Nigeria.

The .ng string is a critical National resource and Nigeria’s unique identity on the World Wide Web. The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA) an Industry-led stakeholder organization, is the Registry for the .ng domain name and maintains the database of names registered in the .ng country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) name space in the interest of Nigerians and the global Internet community.
