The Acting Director General of National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Dr. Vincent Olatunji paid a courtesy visit to the NiRA Headquarter in Lagos. For the DG, NiRA is a child that has the blessing of the Agency by virtue of standard, training and process which places NiRA in good light.
He believes that when the deliverable is obvious to the government and its people, nothing can stop the support of NITDA. He stated that NITDA will continue to support startups to create employment and job creation, Small Medium Scales, Innovation Hubs that would create home-grown solutions that would address issues within Nigeria.
The DG believes that the community does not need competition but collaboration, With the submission of a road-map to the Federal Executive Council, everyone is expected to be ready to make Nigeria work. The Ministry of Communication is set to change the attitude of Nigerians with partnerships and collaborations to make it work.
The Past President of ATCON, Engr, Lanre Ajayi stated that it was exceptional for the DG to take time to visit. Quoting the NiRA President, it was the first time a DG of the Agency would pay such a courtesy call to the NiRA Building. Engr. Ajayi requested for more room to seat and discuss mainstreaming discussion on Innovation Hub and programs that widening Capacity Building. He appreciated the visibility that the Acting Director General is given to NITDA and hope for more productive actions.
The representative of University of Ibadan, Dr. Osunade was happy to see the Acting DG in action. He requested that the agency pay attention to the eNigeria Exercise and ensure that life comes back to it. He was sure that they would ensure they take the first move to promote the industry and the sector in the right direction.
AfriNIC representative, Mr. Mukon Akong Tamon believes that Africa may become the dumping ground if we refuse to develop in the right direction. We consider NiRA as a critical infrastructure, just like every ccTLD in Africa. To move the GDP, its important to ensure that the infrastructure is credible to handle the emerging technologies and process.
The NiRA President introduced the NiRA Academy to the Acting DG. He stated that NiRA hopes to use this arm to train more Nigerians to global standard. Also, The Ndukwe Kalu Foundation, NiRAs arm to execute the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of the association. The President also suggested that the Agency should look at the support that ngNOC can get from the Annual training.
In response, the Acting DG hope to fill the existing gap within the University while the students are in a dynamic environment. He believes that all the needed suggestions and request would be included in the agenda for the agency.
