GENESYS IGNITES TECHNOLOGY FLAMES IN SOUTH EAST

  • ·         3 Startups Win USD$10,000 Each
  • ·         Witnesses over 2000 Attendees

Enugu, December 15, 2017: Technology has been identified as a powerful tool to redeem and redirect the economy of Nigeria, especially the South East region. This is the unanimous view of speakers and panellists at GenesysIGNITE 2017, regarded as the biggest annual convergence of technology hubs and start-ups in the region.

The GenesysIGNITE start-ups convergence was held in Enugu on Friday, December 15, 2017  by Genesys Tech Hub in collaboration with CFAtech.ng; where three start-ups presented with cheque worth USD$10,000 each after emerging victorious at the pitch sessions.

Speaking at the epoch-making event with over 2000 start-ups drawn from Enugu, Abia, Uyo, Imo, Anambra, Delta, Ebonyi and other neighbouring states in attendance, Senator Ken Nnamani, erstwhile President of the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria, reiterated that the future of Nigeria belongs to the digital economy and will become visible if the country strategizes properly.

Senator Nnamani who chaired the event, underscored the need for educational institutions, especially the universities to ‘feed’ the technology industry with skilled manpower and graduates fit for purpose. He also showered encomiums on Genesys for the foresightedness in organising the event capable of igniting mind shift among the youths “from election ballot box snatching to technological evolution in the region”.

“What Genesys is trying to ignite in the South East and Enugu State in particular is awesome, by opening the eyes of our young people to tech disruptions and opportunities. It is important, because our people are ingenious and if we can apply the ingenuity in the tech ecosystem we can compete with the Silicon Valley. It is high time we shift our ingenuity from snatching ballot boxes during elections, and channel the strengths towards technology.”

Meanwhile, Kingsley Eze, founder and CEO of Genesys Tech Hub, said the main objective of the GenesysIGNITE was to discuss latest technology trends that impact the regions, and to proffer strategies for unearthing benefits in the various sectors of the Nigerian economy at large. Through the event, he said, they are also promoting innovative business solutions and ideas, currently propagated in the form of start-ups, within the region, culminating in capacity building and other exigencies to help them thrive.

Presenting the cash prizes to Tutor Finder, PlayJoor and House of Uwe, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the Minister of Science and Technology, said that it was high time various research and development results were pulled off the shelves from the Nigerian universities and turned to commercial products. Any nation that produces science and technology experts is always the toast of the world. Genesys is doing what the Government has in mind with regards to youth development - capacity building, incubation, providing venture capitals. I can tell you that the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology will support this platform to ensure that the young people are given a space to express themselves and add value to the economy.”

Dr. Onu added that the Ministry through the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), the Federal government is addressing issues related to patent and intellectual property as means to safeguard investments and ideas of the young people.

Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata Jnr., founder, CFAtech.ng who moderated the panel session informed the youths in attendance that this is the type of events that has helped fuel the tech revolution in other parts of the country and that they owe themselves a duty to take full advantage of the opportunities that will follow GenesysIGNITE 2017.

On his part, Professor Umar Danbatta, executive vice chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) tied digital innovation and development to digital literacy, stating that Government needs to move towards the “pull” strategy with emphasis in the development of appropriate legal framework, applications and local content.

“Digital Access Programme (DAP) is being implemented by the regulator to equip secondary schools across the country with internet connectivity. More than 223 schools have benefited. Internet clouds are being provided within Nigeria’s university and polytechnics to foster improvement in digital literacy and application,” the EVC said through Mr. Tony Ojobo, director, Public Affairs at the Commission.

GenesysIGNITE 2017 has laid a solid foundation for technology development in the south east and south south regions of the country.

EFCC destroying Local Content concerning Innoson ?

It is a shame that's the *#EFCC* could throw tear gas on  *Savage Crescent* road not minding the people living in its environs.
Thereby making the *kids* who came for their *Christmas party in Solid 100.9Fm on  number 10b savage Crescent suffer pain* and cried for over one hour because they were trying to arrest Innoson Group who lives adjacent *#solid1009fm.*

If what I read below is true,  then the entire savage crescent needs an apology from *EFCC WITH immediate effect.* *#Ijele*

Crescent#Innoson group Vs GTBank : 30 Key Points you need to know about their dispute

1 - At all Material time , Innoson Nigeria Ltd operates a Current Account with GTBank .

2 - Innoson obtained , and had repaid same , a loan of N1.3billion from GTB Which was secured with a legal mortgage of its properties valued at more than N1.4billion .

3 - Innoson discovered that GTBank imposed excess and unlawful charges in its Current account .

4  Innoson Group Complained to GTBank on his discovery of access charges on his account .

5 - Both parties ( Innoson and GTBank ) agreed to invite an independent auditing firm that will be agreed by both parties .

*6*- At the end , MULTI-WINGS Consulting Firm of Auditors was invited to properly audit Innoson Nigeria Ltd Current account No 0043753636 domiciled with Nnewi Branch of GTBank . The audit covers a period from March 2004 to Dec 2011 .

7 - After the account was audited , it was discovered that GTBank has been illegally deducting excess bank charges on its overdraft facility to the Innoson to the tune of seven hundred and Eighty-Six Million, Two Hundred and Five Thousand , Nine Hundred and Fifty-Five Naira , Ninety Nine kobo ( N786,205,955.99).

8 -  GTBank was shocked at the audit report when the report was forwarded to it .They replied in their letter to Innoson on 20th January , 2012 that it will investigate the issue raised and will get back to Innoson on the Conclusion of its investigation .

9 - In the month of September 2012 , GTBank wrote to Innoson that from their personal audit report , the excess bank charges was Five Hundred and Fifty-Nine Million , three Hundred and Seventy-Two naira ,Nine kobo ( N 559.3Million).

10 - Innoson agreed to their version and decided to accept payment from it in the spirit of amicable resolution.

*11*- Innoson also requested that the said agreed amount of N559.3million be paid with a 22% interest rate because Innoson had been repaying all his loan with GTBank at 22% interest rate.

12 - GTBank refused and said that the best they can repay excess and illegal deduction is at 7% interest rate . This led to another disagreement between Innoson and GTBank .

13 - As a result , in 2012 , Innoson sued GTBank at Federal High Court Awka with Suit No : FHC/Awk/Cs/2012 .

14 - Federal High Court, Awka delivered Judgement in favour of Innoson in excess of N4.7billion against GTBank.

17 - In its various affidavits, particularly at the Court of Appeal in suit no : CA/E/288/2013 , GTBank deposed that if it pays the outstanding Judgement debt of N6billion , much less the N8.5billion , it could go bankrupt and be out of business .

18 - GTBank went to the Supreme Court .The case is still in the Supreme Court , while the Judgement debt is about N8billion now to be paid to Innoson by GTBank .

#Another Cases:

22 - Rather than Comply with the Garnishee Order Absolute of the Court , GTBank on February 6, 2015 appealed the Judgement , but the Court of Appeal in Appeal no. CA/1/258/2011 affirmed the Judgement of the Federal High Court and ordered GTBank to pay the Judgement debt of #2,048,737,443.67 (#2.048billion) to Innoson .

23 - GTBank , instead , appealed to the Supreme Court against the Court of Appeal's decision where GTBank claimed through a motion in suit no : Sc /694/2014, that the Court of Appeal Judgement in Ibadan (CA/I/258/2011) was procured by suspicious means .

24 - On May 12,  2017 , Supreme Court in its wisdom and rightly , dismissed that unfounded and exasperating claim of GTB against Innoson .

25 - As a result , Innoson commenced a N400 billion suit against GTBank , in the suit No: FCT /HC/CV/2448/2017 at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja .

#Another issues

26 - Consequently , in order to save itself from paying the outstanding Judgement debts to Innoson , the GTBbank filed a petition against Innoson alleging forgery  which led to the suit No : FHC /L/565C/2015 by Police .

27 - On February 17, 2016 , Police properly and Competently withdraw the charges against Innoson , saying they needed to properly investigate the bank's complaints first and see if they had merits .

28 - On September 1 , 2014 ,  GTBank secured an ex parte order on Innoson Nigeria Limited, dated September 1, 2014 with suit no FHC/L/CS/1119/2014 , filed before a Federal High Court in Lagos , between GTBank and Innoson Nigeria Limited , issued by *Justice Okon Abang* , ordering that , pending the hearing and the determination of the substantive suit , all Commercial Banks in Nigeria were restrained from accepting in any manner whatsoever to any mandate or instruction presented to them by Innoson Companies or any of its agents or nominees for withdrawal of any sum of money standing to the credit of any account maintained by the company in all the banks.

29 - However , on June 10, 2015 , *Justice Saliu Saidu* of the Federal High Court , Lagos , in a Considered ruling set aside the ex parte order of September 1, 2014 , by Justice Okon Abang and the writ of summon as well .

30 - Innoson then slammed a N30 billion suit on Guaranty Trust Bank for what it had suffered in monetary terms and reputational terms during the months when the accounts of its companies in all Nigerian banks were frozen.
With Innoson winning both cases at the High Court and both cases at the Appeal Court, and GTB appealing, both cases are awaiting the verdict of the Supreme Court. Meanwhile the fresh N30 billion naira suit has just gone to the High Court to start its legal journey.

....

In all , Innoson has won two High Court cases and two Appeal Court cases all against GTBank .

Innoson as at today has Judgement debt over about N10billion based on 22% interest rate against GTBank .

#Questions for EFCC :

(i) Now where is the EFCC coming from in all these ?

(ii) Does EFCC actually understand their duties here ?

(iii) Is EFCC by their action not sabotaging Nigerian economy ?

(iv)  If EFCC should to arrest any of the parties , shouldn't GTBank who dubiously deducted Innoson money from his account and have debt of about N8billion to pay Innoson that they should arrest ?

Kathy Brown: a strong leadership looking towards changing the baton.

Image result for kathy brown isoc president

In a letter sent round to the membership, the ISOC President will be looking forward to a new leadership soon. It is expected that the process must have commenced with the release of the letter below. Learn more about the society on www.isoc.org.

---------------------------
Dear ISOC Chapters,

The Internet Society’s 25th anniversary year has been a milestone year in more ways than one. We have celebrated our solidarity and strength together and with confidence in our Mission. We have demonstrated deep respect for our roots by hosting a highly successful Internet Hall of Fame, whilst welcoming the future by honoring our 25 young innovators under 25. Our InterCommunity event this year was truly impressive — circling the world in 24hours by connecting 56 different “nodes” in 112 countries on six continents.

Together, we have demonstrated how, as a global community, we can use the Internet to strengthen the Internet.

At the recent Board meeting in Singapore there were some great examples of the work that has taken place. We had an amazing report of the work in Asia, a report from our Chapter in Singapore and a report from Raul on the extraordinary work done by our Chapters. Our OMAC meeting was lively and productive and ISOC’s interaction with the IETF was likewise productive and forward-leaning.

It seems clear to me that the Internet Society is at a crossroads: it is strong; you are strong and focused on the future. At this juncture, it feels natural and right for me to pass the CEO baton to the next generation of ISOC leadership. So, it was with some emotion that I informed the Board in Singapore that I would not seek another extension of my contract in 2018.

This community will be very hard for me to leave. Indeed, I can’t ever imagine not supporting the work of the Internet Society. All the work we do, guided by our vision of an Internet for everyone, is of urgent importance. I do look forward, though, to spending time in a quieter mode, and dedicating some energy to family needs.

The Board was gracious and supportive of my decision and committed to commencing a search expeditiously. The Board has assured me that it will be as transparent as possible with respect to its plans, will communicate with you directly on next steps and keep you informed throughout the process. You should expect this to take some time but you have my commitment to continue the work of the Internet Society and to do my utmost to prepare for a smooth transition while the Board conducts its search.

As always, do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions and concerns. My door—and email—is always open to each of you.

CSAM 2017: CSEAN urges FG to appoint SA to drive cyber security agenda

cyber

In order to properly drive the cyber security agenda of the federal government, the Cyber Security Experts Association of Nigeria (CSEAN) has called on President Mohammadu Buhari to urgently appoint a Special Adviser (SA) on Cyber Security in the country.

CSEAN President, Mr. Remi Afon, made this call in commemoration of the 2017 CSAM adding “The time is ripe for President Mohammadu Buhari to appoint a special adviser on cybersecurity who will be driving the cybersecurity agenda of the government.”
Afon explained that October every year has been set aside globally as cyber security awareness month, stressing that it was started 14 years ago by the National Cyber Security Alliance and the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and is now being embraced by many countries around the world with added expansive international adoption this year under the umbrella of Cyber Security Awareness Month (CSAM).

CSEAN, he said, being a cyber security awareness advocate and the curator of STOP. THINK. CONNECT. in Nigeria, the global online safety education and awareness campaign, will be at the forefront this month of October to educate all consumers and businesses about the importance of cybersecurity and how to protect their personal information.

CSEAN is a non-profit organisation made up of Information security professionals, centred on a collective purpose and vision of championing the cause and awareness of Information security best practices, acting as an agent of change to address Cyber Crime phenomena through engaging intellectual minds, business and political leaders.

CSEAN, he also said, will kick off this year’s Cyber Security Awareness month with series of cyber security awareness lectures and symposium across the country starting from Abuja and Lagos.

“The association has selected some private and public organisations, secondary schools and tertiary institutions for the awareness campaign.

As part of the activities during the month, we will be having cyber security awareness walk during which our members will be giving out tips to people on the street on how stay safe online,” he added.
Afon posited that parallel to all the lined up activities will be social media campaign on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtags #CyberAware #NoFallMaga and interviews with expert speakers on Facebook and YouTube.

He noted that throughout the month of October, CSEAN’s campaign will focus on cybersecurity in the workplace, governance, social media security, cyberbullying, fake news, phishing, identity theft, privacy and data protection, cybersecurity at home, and skills in cybersecurity.

CSEAN, he said, is using this occasion to again call on all arms of governments Executive, Judiciary and Legislative to set aside and adopt October as National Cyber Security Awareness month.
“We have for a very long time observed with great concern the apathy of the present government towards cybersecurity development in the country.

The lack of leadership from the government, inadequate regulation and lack of public private partnership in the area of cybersecurity could potentially hunt the country very soon,” he warned.

Taekwondo: Crises. Chaos. Coup

The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation has been thrown into crisis after Sports Minister , Solomon Dalung’ s controversial inauguration of the NTF board , reports ’ TANA AIYEJINA.

The taekwondo polls seemed destined for a controversial end even before it was conducted. There had been a silent line of discord , with members allegedly pledging allegiance to former president George Ashiru and Margaret Binga, who was controversially inaugurated as the new NTF president on August 23 by Sports Minister , Solomon Dalung .

Ashiru, who was vying for a second term in office, got to the venue of the polls on June 13 to discover that his name had disappeared from the list without reasons given.

He alongside 176 other candidates — out of the 396 that applied to contest — on the various federations ’ boards , were disqualified just few minutes to the commencement of the elections in mysterious circumstances.

The Grand Master, who came into the board via the ex - officio slot , protested the decision and the Abdulrazak Salau -led Appeals Committee nullified the polls and ordered a re -run , after it was discovered that Ashiru’ s name was on the sports ministry ’s original list .

“ I have contested in more than five elections in Nigeria and this will be the first time that such discrepancies will occur. They were glaring mistakes . But with the decision of the Appeals Committee to conduct fresh elections, I have been vindicated and I believe that the true people ’s choice will emerge , ” a delighted Ashiru told our correspondent in Abuja after the Appeals Committee decision , which was also upheld by the Harmonisation Committee headed by Dalung .

But that decision opened a new chapter of controversy, crisis and upheaval in the taekwondo family, after the NTF board members, who were directed to report to Abuja for a re - run election on July 20 , were stunned as a 14 - man board with Binga as president , was sworn in on August 23 , despite the re - run not conducted.

The others on the board are vice president, Abdullahi Saidu ( North West ), Ashiru ( Ex -Officio) , Jonathan Nnaji ( International ), Anthony Anafulu ( North Central ), Abubakar Ago ( North East ), Obumneme Arum ( South East), Charity Igbendion (South South ), Tayo Popoola (South West ) , Dr . Pat Anyanwu ( Nigeria Association for Physical , Health Education , Recreation, Sport and Dance ) , Adewale Adebiyi ( Institutional) , Sani Lawal (Technical ) and Calistus Ebare ( Media ). Taiwo Oriss is the secretary.

A top sports ministry official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity , said Dalung’ s inauguration ceremony took them by surprise.

“ The day that the TFN board members were called for inauguration, we were all surprised because there should have been a re -run . We really don’t know what happened . We learnt the decision was taken because they said the issue concerned just one person and it wasn ’t enough to stop the election of every other person on the board, ” our source said.

Ironically , the re -run of the South West election, which also had issues , was successfully conducted.

“ The decision was passed to the international body ( World Taekwondo Federation ) that there would be a re - run election with the date . We came to Abuja July 20 preparing for it, there was a re- run for one of the disputed zonal elections, the same principle applied to the presidential election and then they said there was no (presidential ) election, ” Ashiru said.

After the re- run election was severally shifted, some board members of the NTF told our correspondent that they were notified via WhatsApp messages at short notice of the inauguration.

“ We were a little bit surprised when we heard that people were being called to Abuja for an inauguration and we thought it was a hoax. There was no documentation , no publication and it was the federation secretary that sent WhatsApp messages , SMS and phone calls, ” Ashiru said.
“ Some of us felt it was not enough documentation for an official issue on ground . The last we were told on July 21 was that the election was postponed for two weeks. We waited and a month later , we got a call giving us an 18 -hour notice . Naturally, many people couldn’ t attend the inauguration .”

International referee Ferguson Oluigbo said he , some major stakeholders and board members ignored the message for the NTF’ s inauguration ceremony .

Oluigbo, a delegate from Imo State at the June polls , stated , “ I categorically stand on the premise that there’s no taekwondo federation board right now because we’ ve gone to Abuja on several occasions for the election spending so much money but it didn ’t hold . The last time , they told us to come back in two weeks’ time for the election . But while we were waiting for an official notification to come back, we saw a message at night that some people should turn up in Abuja for an inauguration. We all rejected the move because that was not the message sent to us earlier . They had told us to be on standby for the election. ”

He described Dalung ’ s inauguration, where only five members of the federation were allegedly present , as “ a kind of coup .”

“ The minister took some people to his office and planned a kind of coup . Out of 14 board members , only five were there. They had only one zonal representative out of six . The vice president wasn’ t there and you went ahead to inaugurate the president and some candidates? And they expect us to line up behind them? No . Every right thinking person knows that this undemocratic . This is a martial sport and we won ’t allow that. ”

It was alleged that the board ’s vice president, Abdullahi Saidu, was absent at the inauguration because according to a delegate , “ he vowed he wasn’ t going to work with an appointed president .”

But Margaret Binga insisted that the most important thing was that the board was inaugurated despite several members shunning the exercise .

“ Does it matter whether all the board members were present or not ? There was an inauguration that took place on August 23 . I don’ t know why they are trying to make issues out of this . I know that I went for the election (on June 13 ) and I was declared winner unopposed because I was the only person standing ; he (Ashiru) had an issue , ” the former taekwondo athlete said.

“ Everybody was invited for the inauguration but the vice president said he couldn’ t come because he was sitting for an exam. I don’t know why they (others ) didn ’t come but as far as I ’m concerned , we were there and the inauguration went on. ”

The Customs officer, however , admitted that she was sworn - in without the re- run polls being conducted.
She argued that the decision to swear her in was taken after it was discovered that the June 13 election was free and fair.

Binga said, “ We had election on June 13, two of us came out for the presidential position. When the names were called, it was discovered my opponent ’s name ( Ashiru) was not on the list . We were all accredited to vote but he wasn’t . He didn ’t even vote for the vice presidential position. Since there was no other contestant, I was declared unopposed . After then , they wrote a petition and they said there was going to be a re -run election.”

Speaking further, she added , “ We went back for the re -run and we were ready for election . The South- West re- run was held but as we were waiting for the presidential re -run , a press release came from the sports minister ’s office at around 9 pm, that the first election (which had been annulled) was upheld . The press release is there for everyone to see .

“ We were told to get ready for inauguration. If you listened to the minister ’ s speech on the day of inauguration, he said the committee was set up and they looked into the issues before the first election was upheld. That was how I was inaugurated as the President of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation .”

But a delegate from Ogun State at the June polls , Tayo Adewalure , maintained that the taekwondo community won ’t accept Binga as their president .

Adewalure stated, “ The general public of taekwondo practitioners doesn’ t accept the president imposed on them; yes, they imposed somebody on them.

“ Nobody voted. They said since Ashiru’s name was not on the list, therefore the second person was the unanimous winner . Who voted her ? No election was concluded. After the minister said he would invite us in the next weeks, we heard they had inaugurated someone who was not voted for. That’ s unacceptable .”

The Nigeria Olympic Committee, the body saddled with the responsibility of monitoring the federations ’ elections and sending reports of proceedings to the International Olympic Committee and world bodies has been accused of unfairness in the confusion .

NOC boss Habu Gumel was at the inauguration ceremony and some angry stakeholders say he shouldn’ t have attended when he was aware that a re- run was not conducted.

But NOC secretary- general, TundePopoola, seems to be in the dark over the events that transpired leading to the inauguration.

He said, “I had information that was supposed to be another election. I understand that the first election was not properly concluded in the sense that there was no election for the federation’ s president . A panel met and they said there was going to be a re -run someday , which was published.

“ But somehow , an inauguration took place; I don’t know what happened in - between . But I know there was an inauguration.”

Already, the crisis and division in the taekwondo board has had adverse effects on the sport .

Last month, the 15 th PANAMAI West Africa Open Taekwondo Championships scheduled for the National Stadium, Lagos , from August 24 to August 26 , was postponed indefinitely because of the crisis.

“ The championships was shifted indefinitely until the election is conducted by the sports ministry and inauguration held , then we will reschedule a date ,” Oluigbo stated .

It was also learnt that aggrieved stakeholders boycotted the 2017 National Youth Games as the rift continued .
“ They were calling some of our members to attend the event in Ilorin but they declined . The referees in Ilorin were substandard refs. None of the real refs who should have officiated showed up,” Adewalure added.

But Binga said the officials who were at Ilorin gave a good account of themselves despite the boycott .
She said, “ That’ s a blatant lie. I just came back from the National Youth Games in Ilorin on Thursday . We had four international referees and four national referees at the Youth Games.

“ It’ s not as if those complaining were sidelined , they were invited for the Youth Games but they refused to come. And they gave different reasons. If they are saying they didn ’t attend because they are not happy , all good and fair . The international referees at the Youth Games are even more current than those claiming to be the seniors . They were at Ilorin , they officiated and we had the best performances cut across all the geo -political zones. ”

No board meeting has been held since the inauguration, an indication that the sport might continue to suffer .
“ I ’ve been with presidents, Nnaji was there, we worked closely, when Ashiru came in, we worked together , we were all happy . How come this group hasn’ t called a stakeholders ’ meeting ? It’ s because they know they are illegal . If they are legal, they should come out boldly ,” Oluigbo said. Ashiru also confirmed that he hasn ’ t been invited for any meeting .

“ I ’m not aware of any meeting; I haven ’ t been called by the appropriate people who can call meetings. The secretary has that right . If there’s a meeting, then it’s not formal, maybe an informal meeting by some members. ”
Meanwhile , the controversial inauguration may attract sanctions from World Taekwondo Federation, stakeholders fear.

Our correspondent’s research showed that Nigeria ’ s page on the WTF website, which should have contained basic information about the NTF like key officers and secretariat, has been left blank by the world body . It is seen as an indication that the WTF might not be satisfied with the proceedings of the election .

Ashiru said Nigeria has been placed on “ technical suspension ” due to the lingering in - fighting.
“ What they (WTF ) did was to put Nigeria under suspension for not having the re -run on July 20 as the secretary informed them; they gave him July 21 to give a report . By 24 th , when they didn ’t get a report on the re - run , they put Nigeria under technical suspension , which means ‘you don’t have a federation. ’

“ They requested that the Nigeria Olympic Committee brief them on who are the leaders of the NTF and from that point, they blocked our access to all the benefits of membership . It’s the first time that is happening to us in 30 years of the federation. ”

But Binga insisted, “ There ’s no ban from the international body .”

Popoola is hopeful the crisis would be resolved before the world federation’ s hammer falls on Nigeria.
“ I ’m not sure yet if the international body is aware of the issue but I think the matter should be resolved amicably. There are shades of opinion on what happened ; we are yet to receive any letter from anybody , we just see what ’s happening on the pages of newspapers .

“ After the elections, normally, we send letters to the international Federation on who has won the elections, that’ s the only part we haven ’t done but it doesn ’t mean that’s the final issue . There ’s an issue to be resolved ,” he stated .

Top 10 Most Dangerous Celebrities to Google.

We’re constantly searching the web for news and information about what is going on in the world of celebrities, but we do not stop to think of the consequences?
We are talking about the threats and vulnerabilities we expose ourselves to when we type in the names of the rich and famous into Google.
The antivirus firm, McAfee have done just that and maybe we should take notice next time we try to find out who Banky W was dancing with or why Tiwa Savage was in such a good mood at the Headies.
McAfee have put together a list of the top 10 most dangerous celebrities to Google
These are the 10 celebrity names that Googling will put you at the greatest risk of being exposed to malware.

Don't think about googling them just because we said you should not. If you were to search “Any name above + free MP3” you would have a huge 22% chance of being exposed to a malicious site.
As you can see, musicians have dominated the list from McAfee and this is because people are constantly looking for free downloads and this gives hackers a way in. As soon as you download something from a nefarious source or sketchy website, you’re making yourself fair game for these cyber-criminals to install whatever the hell they want on your machine. You have to be careful.
If you truly want to be safe, you should never Google the above list. Ever.

LAGOS TO HOST THE 27TH AFRINIC PUBLIC POLICY MEETING

In a recent release by NiRA, Lagos will in November host hundreds of key players in the African and global Internet industry sector at the 27th public policy meeting of the African Network Information Center (AFRINIC). The event dubbed AFRINIC 27 will be a platform for technocrats and business to discuss policies, trends, resources and challenges in growing Internet for sustainable development in Africa and the Indian Ocean Region. It is being hosted by AFRINIC in collaboration with the Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NiRA).

The event which is held annually consists of keynote speeches, policy discussions, seminars, workshops, tutorials and other forums for sharing ICT knowledge within the African region. The 2016 edition was held in Mauritius and was attended by over 250 delegates from 48 countries around the world. Registration for the event is on going through the meeting website http://bit.ly/2vdgM3P.

Whereas Internet penetration in Africa has grown from 11% to 28.6% in just 5  years despite challenges such as cyber security, it is lower when compared to the rest of the world. Measurable parameters such IP address allocations show that the continent is quite behind. In April 2017, AFRINIC entered the depletion phase of fourth version of IP Addresses (IPv4) way behind of the other four continental regional Internet registries who are already distributing the newest version IPv6 in earnest. Please read the event concept note at http://bit.ly/2uylwiv.

AFRINIC is the Regional Internet Registry for Africa headquartered in Ebene, Mauritius. It is responsible for the distribution and management of Internet number resources (IP address space and Autonomous System Numbers) in Africa and the Indian Ocean region. AFRINIC ensures equitable and efficient distribution of Internet number resources to the African Internet community to support Internet technology usage and development across the continent. The Argument for Buhari

I participated actively in the electoral campaign that brought in the Buhari administration at the highest level. On the strength of the work i did with other Volunteers at the Buhari Support Organizations, i was nominated into the APC Presidential Campaign Council's Media & Publicity Directorate.

During the campaign and after election some of my colleagues and co-volunteers asked me about my expectations. I told all who cared to listen that i would not expect much in the first 4 years because it would be tough but i prayed for the best. I knew Buhari and his team would only be able to clear the debris of the mess already created by Jonathan's administration. I was clear that Buhari's second coming will be to restart the country.

Nigerians will not see the positive impact of the government until the 4th year i reckoned.

I also admonished my colleagues to moderate their expectations in terms of what they hope to benefit as individuals and for the country because Nigeria wont become Dubai, London and Paris in 4years. And all the problems wont disappear just because Buhari has become the President.

I learnt early in life to appreciate the circumstances around me. My upbringing also helped me to learn how to moderate my expectations from anyone.

I have seen posts and comments of those who are apologetic and expressed regret for voting for Buhari. What were they expecting? That Buhari will turn stone to bread? Some said he has not fulfilled his campaign promises. Are campaign promises meant to be fulfilled in two years or in the life of an administration?

What did Buhari promise?  And in two years has the administration really failed on them? The answer is no. The administration has done very well in fulfilling the campaign promises under the broad themes of the Fight Against Corruption, Economic Diversification and Security. The administration has relentlessly pursued the three broad thematic focus with missionary zeal.

We had an administration that inherited a broken down country that was at the brink of collapse. Nigeria was buffeted by Boko Haram, Kidnapping, Militancy, Armed Robbery, Criminal Armed Herdsmen and Rustlers, industrial scale corruption and impunity never seen in history.

The economy despite 5 years unprecedented oil boom collapsed since late 2013 when previous administration had been borrowing from China to buy arms and other lenders to pay salaries. By 2014 States were already in trouble with months of unpaid salaries to workers. By May 29, 2015 when Buhari took over Nigeria was already on life support with 33 states owing between 12 and 8 months workers salaries and that of pensioners. The price of crude, the only major source of foreign exchange had plummeted to about $30 per barrel from the height of $120.

It was obvious Buhari was starting from below ground zero. What should have been done 30 years ago are the things the administration is still battling with. Getting Nigeria out of this morass wont be a picnic.

It will be serious hardwork. The administration that earned a record $440 Billion oil revenue in 5years and highest in Nigeria's history didn't improve infrastructure beyond tokenism, depleted foreign reserve, demolished Excess Crude Account, accumulated more foreign and local debts, owed contractors, left unpaid N600billion fuel subsidy bill, unpaid N60billion fertilizer subsidy bill, unpaid salaries and pension arrears for workers and retirees.

Nigeria was down and out. A consumerist economy where anything and everything were imported with unsustainable import bills and demand of Forex will go down. It was an economy built on consumption and oil revenue.

What has Buhari done?

Buhari administration identified the implosion and civil unrest that will happen with distressed 33 states owing salaries. He approved bailout funds to the state to help them pay salaries and pension arrears. For two years, the states have been given special funds and Paris Club refund in excess of N2trillion.

The administration paid N600b inherited fuel subsidy bill. Paid N60b inherited fertilizer subsidy bill. Paid inherited salaries and pension arrears of Federal workers. Started paying contractors that have not been paid since 2013 on Federal projects especially road construction across the country.

To diversify the economy away from crude oil, President Buhari insisted Nigeria must produce locally things we can produce easily and he anchored this on Agriculture and Solid Minerals. The two sectors have consistently grown in contribution to GDP in the last two years according to NBS quarterly reports.

Nigeria has cut import bill by more than 50 per cent on rice and ramping up production in wheat and other produce. The FG through CBN banned 41 items from accessing forex from official Windows. This was mercilessly criticized by the 'experts' but the Buhari administration is winning the argument today with increased local production and industrial capacity utilisation by factories/manufacturers sourcing raw materials locally.

With the rice and wheat success in Kebbi and other states especially in the north, private capital is flowing into the processing sector of the agriculture value chain. Wacot just opened N10b Rice Mill, Dangote opened Tomatoe Paste Factory in Kano, Olam will commission N20billion Livestock Feed and Chicken Hatchery Plant in Kaduna in September among other investors.

Buhari went to Morocco and signed a deal on Phosphate and Gas pipeline between Nigeria and the North Africa nation. The phosphate is a major component for fertilizer production. With the deal the FG working with the Sovereign Wealth Fund had reactivated 11 moribund fertilizer Blending Plants in Nigeria in the last 1 year that have created 50,000 jobs and producing 1.3metric tonnes of fertilizer. Today the N50b annual fertilizer subsidy is gone while a bag of fertilizer sells for N5,500 which is 30 per cent cheaper than what it used to sell while the FG no longer pay N6000 subsidy per bag for farmers. Six more dead Fertilizer Blending Plants will come back to life before end of the year and Nigeria will be in a position to start exporting fertilizer.

Segun Adeniyi, Chairman Editorial Board of Thisday and a Buhari arch-critic couldn't hide his praise in his recent Thisday Backpage Column where he wrote that a revolution is happening in Nigeria's agricultural sector under Buhari with millions of Nigerians now embracing farming and with increased local production of fertilizer from the 11 revamped Blending Plants.

On infrastructure, the government under Buhari is spending more money to revive abandoned projects - roads, power, rail, pipelines, housing etc. The Lagos-Ibadan rail project has started. The administration has negotiated foreign loan that will connect the entire country by rail network from Lagos to Calabar and Port Harcourt to Kano. The Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri standard Guage rail line that had been abandoned since 1987 has been reactivated and FG already set June 2018 as date when it will be commissioned.

Despite acute low revenue, the Buhari administration is saving more money into the ECA and boosting Foreign Reserve. The Foreign Reserve went up by over $500million by CBN records last week. To further stimulate the economy the administration recently approved N2trillion Bond to pay local contractors who have been owed by FG for 10years. A committee is working to verify all debts to contractors already.

The same government for the first time in our recent history is committed to improving the Ease of Doing Business in Nigeria and National Productivity with Executive Orders already yielding positive results with some MDAs such as Immigration, Customs, FRSC, FIRS, CAC, NPA etc.

If previous administrations had done what Buhari administration is doing now our development trajectory as a country would have been far better than we currently have.

The President is confronting corruption squarely. The administration is recovering billions of naira, hundreds of Millions in dollars in cash and real estate never done before. He confronted corruption in the Armed Forces and touched serving and retired Generals. He confronted corruption in the Judiciary and broke the unwritten code of Judicial untouchables. It is only a Buhari without a moral and corruption baggage that could do these.

I should think these are what those who genuinely campaigned and voted for Buhari asked for and wanted him to do.

The local and global inventors' confidence in the economy is at an all time high because of the global approval rating of the President and the fight against corruption. Market Capitalisation at the Stock Exchange was at N13trilion last, week breaking 3 years record. Nigeria just reclaimed the 3rd position as the destination for FDIs in Africa with $4.6billion inflow in 2016 following Angola and Egypt after 5years year on year decline from 2010-2015 under Jonathan administration. The government that had unprecedented oil revenue and a super Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

All these happening in two years under an administration that was challenged with low revenue yet the administration is still investing in social intervention programs- School Feeding for primary school pupils which has taken off in 19 states, NPower which has employed over 200,000 jobless young people who are now adding value to the communities where they work and to themselves.

I recognize missed steps and areas where things should have been done better especially proper  coordination at governmental and inter-agencies levels. These are not reasons to be disillusioned or regret voting out a government that wrecked Nigeria.

At this point i can only pray and wish President Buhari good health and may he return strong and healthy enough to finish the second half of his 4years tenure.

If he will be on the ballot in 2019, God sparing our lives, i will campaign and vote for him again. Nigeria needs 8years of his steady hands to clear the mess with a solid foundation that a younger and visionary successor will build on.

In my estimation, Nigeria needs at least 20 years of focused and honest leadership to be a great country we want.

COMMONWEALTH SPEAKERS AND PRESIDING OFFICERS CONFERENCE: OSINBAJO SPEAKS.

SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PROF. YEMI OSINBAJO, SAN, ACTING PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA AT THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE 16TH COMMONWEALTH SPEAKERS AND PRESIDING OFFICERS CONFERENCE, AFRICA REGION, ON TUESDAY JULY 25, 2017 AT THE ECOWAS PARLIAMENT COMPLEX, ABUJA.

Protocols

It is my pleasure to address this gathering of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Parliaments from across the Commonwealth’s Africa Region.

I congratulate my brother, Rt. Hon. Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Yakubu Dogara for successfully steering the affairs of this elite association since November 2015 when the 15th Conference in Accra, Ghana approved the National Assembly of Nigeria as the next host.

On a lighter note, I don't know the experience, of presiding officers from other nations present, of the portrayals by the press of the relationship between the executive and the legislature.

Here in Nigeria what makes the news is the conflict between the executive and the legislature. The more dramatic the alleged conflict the more newsworthy. There’s something about rumours of us wrangling and quarrelling that always seems to catch and hold the attention of our friends in the traditional and social media.

If you closely follow the news here for example, you will regularly be confronted – especially in recent weeks – by ‘Exclusive’ and ‘Breaking News’  reporting  of several different stories of conflict between the executive and the legislature.

A particularly intriguing report said "Acting President threatens National Assembly leadership!

Now anyone who sees the combined size of the distinguished Senate President and the Rt. Hon. Speaker compared to mine must know that it would be a suicide mission to threaten either of these two gentlemen let alone both of them.

It was Stephen Hawking, the renowned British theoretical physicist and Cambridge professor who recently declared that we live in the most dangerous time in the history of the world. Citing climate change, food security, overpopulation, and inequality, but more importantly he spoke of the anger of the ignored and marginalized majority.

But his solution is even more thought provoking. He argues that to save our world it would require the elite to learn the lessons of the past and above all, to learn a measure of humanity.

I would ask that you indulge me for a few minutes to talk about the changing times and the burden of the political elite especially the legislature and the executive.

What did Hawking mean by learning a measure of humanity? It means to put ourselves in the position of the most deprived in our societies to stand in their shoes and to sit where they sit, to feel their pains and understand that their frequently dashed hope is that the political elite know that the heavy burdens they bear is ours to lighten.

The sharp rebuke of the establishment by the Brexit vote and the American election results show that even in the more comfortable democracies of the world the people are angry.

In Africa and the developing World the angst and cynicism of the populace is worse. Conflicts, corruption, weak institutions have ensured that the largest numbers of the poor and deprived come from our continent and there is unanimity of opinion that it is the failure of leadership. So while we speak of our legislative halls as hallowed chambers, our courts as temples of justice, and the executive villas as corridors of power, all suggestive of grand but isolated institutions.

The reality for the majority of our peoples is the misery of the slums and the indignities of powerlessness.

So, while we describe ourselves as Excellencies, distinguished and honorable the vast majority our people would in their most polite moments say that they see neither excellence nor much honour in their own lives.

Your Excellencies and my distinguished honorable brothers and sisters:

The leadership positions we occupy is a short lease that providence and the electorate have given us to shape the present and determine the future of millions and the generations that will be born to them, it would be foolish indeed to think that it is an occasion for self-aggrandizement or the pursuit of selfish interests.

The responsibility that privilege and power place upon us is to do our utmost to change the current bleak narratives and projections for our nation and the world.

Poverty, hunger and disease can truly become history by the pursuing those legislative and executive options that target education, food security, healthcare for all.

Let me say that the National Assembly and the executive have shown that when we work together we can make the quantum leaps in bettering the lives and livelihoods of our people.

In the last two years, Nigeria which is the largest producer of rice in West Africa and the second largest importer of rice in the world has changed that story. Our rice import bill in 2014 was N1biilion a month.

Today, by a combination of progressive legislative appropriation to agriculture and providing single digit credit under our anchor borrowers programme for the purchase of the right fertilizer quality and other inputs and credit, many rice farmers moved from getting yields of 3.5 metric tons per hectare to 7.5 metric tons per hectare.

Importation of rice has dropped by over 80 percent and we will be self-sufficient in rice production by the end of 2018. We have empowered the rural farmers, over 1.43 million rice farmers alone.

Again because we chose to work together the National Assembly at the request of the Executive appropriated N500 billion about $3 billion for the largest social investments programme in sub-Saharan Africa.

The fund allows us to engage 500,000 young graduates in our N-Power scheme, to give cash transfers to a million of the poorest in our society, to extend microcredit to a Million market women, artisans, and small businesses. It enables us to begin a social housing fund in the sum of N1 trillion with government putting in N100 billion annually. The fund will provide finance on a counterpart basis for developers and create mortgage facilities that will ultimately enable anyone to pay about  N30,000 a month to own a home.

The executive and the legislature in the worst days of the Boko Haram tragedy  also worked together to ensure that adequate provision was made for the military including prompt passing of virements when initially budgeted funds ran short. We decimated the Boko Haram as a fighting force, and ensured that they control no part of Nigerian territory.

It is therefore my submission that the burden that the privilege of leadership places upon us is that our tenured positions in the executive and legislature must not be wasted on conflicts and division. The problems are too grave, the lives and livelihoods of millions depend on our cooperation, we cannot afford to fail.

Distinguished delegates, as much as I might have loved to remain here and participate in all your deliberations, I also do not want to tempt our editor friends with anything that might justify a headline like ‘Acting President Overstays Parliamentary Welcome’, in tomorrow’spapers.

I will therefore excuse myself, but not before thanking you for the privilege to address you this morning, and wishing you very fruitful and successful deliberations today.

It is therefore my honour to declare this conference open.

Thank you.
