Ooni Speaks...

#ENDSARS will continue to have a significant space in the annals of our history. It was a monumental cause a year ago that unified the brilliant young people of our great nation. It was a cause that they believed in, embarked upon, and demanded for transparent accountability, good leadership, inclusiveness in governance, equal rights for all irrespective of social status or position of privilege. Our young people are the greatest assets of our nation and they are determined to help Nigeria achieve its potential as they have the fire of patriotism burning inside of them.
_
We must not shy away from our collective challenges because this nation belongs to us all and our youths remain the most critical stakeholders in finding solutions to our problems and driving the future of Nigeria into its desired destinations. They are full of creativity, honesty, authenticity, and most importantly with a hopeful ambition to build a secure future that we all can be proud of through their innovative spirit. No matter how fierce and conscripted the struggle may be, our nationalism spirit can win the battle of greatness that Nigeria seeks when we are purposefully.
_
To all Nigerian youths, whatever the hopes of this nation will be in the future lies in your hand. This beautiful nation with abundant God given resources belongs to you all. I would like to crave your indulgence to seek for active participation in governance through the democratic system. You have numerical strengths, and no one can defeat you when you come together in unity.
_
I implore our political leaders to begin to seek for honest, frank, and genuine conversations with our young people as well as stimulate the credible governance system that all Nigerians can trust as history is a reminder of the past and the preserver of the future of all human endeavours. In a free and open society, the solid foundation of the leadership responsibilities is laid on selflessness. Therefore, we must restore the hope of good governance, implement a system that is not reactive, but proactive and responsive to the demands of Nigeria. No one is above the blessing of this beautiful country Nigeria, as every political officeholder is a servant of the Nigerian state.

Dear JUSUN: Remember King Pyrrhus of Epirus.

According to an ancient Malayalam proverb _”Eliye pedichu illam chudaruthu”_ meaning _"Don't burn your house to smoke out a rat”_

As the nation burns there is a need to dispassionately reevaluate the propriety of the JUSUN shutdown. The victory JUSUN seeks is under threat by greater considerations. A victory at all cost now, may mean a loss for the Country.

A Pyrrhic victory is a victory that is not worth winning because so much is lost to achieve it. It is a victory that inflicts such a devastating toll on the victor that it is tantamount to defeat.
The phrase is named after King Pyrrhus of Epirus whose story serves as a lesson to everyone throughout history.

Pyrrhus was a Greek King who ruled about two hundred years before the birth of Christ. He was a great General and tactician loved by his people and feared by his opponents. Pyrrhus lived life to the fullest. He was even married 5 times. He was a charismatic and brilliant leader who enjoyed the company of intellectuals.

Among other noble qualities, King Pyrrhus inspired and encouraged his men on the battlefield, he would often fight with them in the thickest of the action.
King Pyrrhus is regarded as one of the greatest commanders the world has ever seen.

The historian Plutarch wrote that Pyrrhus came second only to Alexander the Great. It is therefore ironic that Pyrrhus is remembered today more as a symbol of failure than for all his military successes which included regaining the throne of Epirus after he was deposed, forging alliances with powerful rulers like Ptolemy 1 (later Pharaoh of Egypt), creating an empire greater than his forbears could have dreamt of. He even became the King of Macedonia.

Pyrrhus' two most significant victories against the Romans: one at Heraclea, where he was significantly outnumbered, and another at Ausculum were feats of Pyrrhus’ superior military ability. These victories however came at a very steep price because Pyrrhus lost most of his most loyal and skilled fighters. In the end, the victory was as costly as a defeat.

In response to congratulations for his victory over the Romans after the battle at Ausculum, Pyrrhus remarked
_"Ne ego si iterum eodem modo vicero, sine ullo milite Epirum revertar."_ Rendered by Plutarch as
_”If we are victorious in one more battle with the Romans, we shall be utterly ruined"_
When Pyrrhus returned from Sicily, the Romans had regrouped and he found himself facing a superior Roman army under Manius Curius Dentatus.
In 272 BC, a few years later, King Pyrrhus was unceremoniously killed in a street fight with a soldier. He was hit on the head by a roof tile thrown by the soldier’s mother.

As we proceed into the 4th week of the JUSUN shutdown in support of financial autonomy or autotomy, all indices show that this protracted shutdown of the halls of justice may yield a *Jusunic victory*.
This will be the case if the Courts remain shut down.

In this battle for autonomy, JUSUN has violated a cardinal rule of engagement; that the weak and the vulnerable must be protected at all cost.

In other words, as the faceoff with the Executive draws on with no real end in sight, the helpless masses and everyday people are the true casualties. What use is a judiciary devoid of public confidence?

Now is the time for JUSUN to return to the drawing board and re-strategize because the industrial action is a win-win for judicial staff and the Executive- the Judiciary staff get a paid vacation while the Executive gets a blank check to act without the interference of the judiciary.

Without the Judiciary, Governors have become Executive Administrators. JUSUN should learn from Pyrrhus, the sanctity of your population is equally and even more important than the battle at the battlefront.

Many argue that JUSUN as an association is only fighting for the interests of its members which merely coincides with the issue of judicial finance. An examination of their antecedents should bear this out.

What has JUSUN done to address the problem of corruption in the judiciary? What has JUSUN done to address unethical conduct of its members? Our brethren in JUSUN should tell us, financial autonomy will make the court staff and bailiffs resume at 8 am? Or whether the Judiciary will return to its old ways of delay and deferment of justice. After this paid vacation, will the Bench still proceed on its usual vacation? Will the judiciary finally protect the interests of the common man or will the courts continue to grant long detention orders against Nigerians on the strength of ex-parte applications by the Police, EFCC, ICPC, DSS and other ‘acronymus’ agencies?

Another voiceless casualty of the JUSUN shutdown is public confidence in the judiciary. Never in the history of this country has the public confidence and trust in the judiciary been at an all-time low. Isn't it a sign of the failure of the judiciary that Nigerians have been able to survive for almost a month without the judiciary? How are disputes being resolved?

In the book of Luke 14: 28-31, Jesus captured the lessons from Pyrrhus perfectly when He asked

_"Which of you, wishing to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost to see if he has the resources to complete it? Otherwise, if he lays the foundation and is unable to finish the work, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, saying, ‘This man could not finish what he started to build. Or what king on his way to war with another king will not first sit down and consider whether he can engage with ten thousand men the one coming against him with twenty thousand?"_

The principle espoused above was as true 2000 years ago as it is today. As Lawyers, we communicate through the hierarchy of principles because we are creatures of precedent.

My simple advice to JUSUN and those of us egging them on is: Remember King Pyrrhus of Epirus.

BABA IJESHA AND THE POSITION OF THE LAW.

People have to know the law. They have to understand it for what it is. Law and justice are roller plates of the same chain. While they may sometimes be inadequate or even depart from the truth due to technicalities or burden of proof, they are the golden threads that sustain a less problematic society.

Nigerians dissipate too much negative energy arguing or, using a better word, pontificating about law they know very little about. The law and the court which is the Temple of Justice are hardly platforms for preconceived notions about the outcome of any matter up for determination. The process is designed to attain justice on the merits of evidence available in each case.

Those who have been to any court in Nigeria must have seen a statute called Lady Justice. Her right hand holds a sword and the left holds a scale. It epitomizes what constitute law and Justice. Law is made with no particular person in mind either for incriminatory or exculpatory considerations. Law respects no one (except you have immunity) and justice serves the purpose of righting wrongs no matter whose ox is gored.

The statute you see in courts is blindfolded against partiality. She doesn’t see the status or wish to lend sympathy for the person facing a criminal offence before her. She is blindfolded so that she will be oblivious of unnecessary emotions and mind games in the process of dispensing justice. She will strike with the sword once guilt is pronounced.

The scale in her hand is for weight and measure. The commodity placed on the scale is called EVIDENCE or PROOF. The scale must tip in a certain way to leave the symbol of justice without reasonable doubt about the guilt or culpability of a criminal.

It’s always a difficult venture to dissect and determine a case before it is heard in court. In fact, the law is always on the side of an accused person from the onset. The accused is PRESUMED INNOCENT until his guilt is proved beyond reasonable doubt. That is why police may grant a suspect administrative bail pending further investigation or preparation of a charge in a court of law. Why keep a suspect in custody when it is presumed that he might not be guilty? It is better for 9 criminals to escape Justice than punishing a man who may turn out to be innocent. Bail is not absolution from guilt. It is just a process in furtherance of the concept of presumption of innocence. Courts too do grant bail except for capital offences which may still be bailable in cases of exceptional circumstances. For example, a dying or very ill accused person may be admitted to bail on medical grounds even though he’s facing a charge that is punishable by death.

The emotional component of our hearts will say Baba Ijesha is as guilty as hell. For rape? No. There is no evidence of rape at all. For attempted rape? Possibly depending on what the CCTV captured. If he had set in motion actions that sufficiently suggest he would have had sexual intercourse with the girl in question, it is safe to slap a charge of attempted rape on him, particularly if he was touching the girl inappropriately and has himself demonstrated readiness for an intercourse. For indecent assault? Yes.

INDECENT ASSAULT is defined as “rubbing against someone for sexual gratification or groping someone for sexual gratification or touching an individual on any part of their body in a sexual manner”. As long as there is no penetration of the V by the P, it is not rape. Rape is defined as “having unlawful carnal knowledge (sexual intercourse) of a woman or girl, without her consent, or with her consent, if the consent is obtained by force or by means of threats or intimidation of any kind, or by fear of harm, or by means of false act, or, in case of a married woman, by personating her husband” (Section 367 and Section 358 of the Criminal Code).

Facts that we know so far suggest that the foster mother of the girl child was watching Baba Ijesha on CCTV touching the girl inappropriately. She and others watching with her in a neighbour’s house could not wait until Baba Ijesha completed his act of gross indulgence (if they had waited till he raped that girl, they would definitely become criminally negligent to protect a child from rape). So Baba Ijesha’s lewd act is indecent assault. If that is the position of the police, it is the correct position. Section 360 of the Criminal Code prescribes two years imprisonment for the offence of indecent assault. The position of the Child Rights Act is stricter. It prescribes 14 years imprisonment for any form of sexual exploitation of a child other than rape.

I’ve read stuff suggesting Statute of Limitation has caught an earlier alleged unlawful act of Baba Ijesha on the girl when she was 7 years old. If a man has sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13, the offence is defilement which is punishable by life imprisonment under Section 218 of the Criminal Code. Except Baba Ijesha makes a direct and voluntary confession that he defiled the girl back then or except the girl’s family kept forensic evidence of the defilement (doubtful if not impossible), the allegation will not stand.

Criminal offences are not affected by limitation statutes in Nigeria. In countries where it applies, it applies mainly to minor offences. If crimes are statute-barred, people can commit serious offences, disappear till the limitations kicked in and then come back as free men. No! You can be tried for any offence if evidence is available that you committed it, the period notwithstanding.

Nigerians should not get carried away by emotions that may flow from Baba Ijesha’s release on bail. He’s entitled. The important thing is that the case is not covered up. He should have his days in court and if found guilty, be punished.

Another issue I’ll like to address is the evidence in the public space. Did Baba Ijesha confess? Yes. He confessed to molesting the girl. “What I did is bad...it’s very bad to molest her, I know”, he said at 3.41’ of the widely circulated video recording. That confession can be used to contradict him if he gave extra-judicial statement to the police denying the allegations. Was the confession made under duress? Hard to tell. Baba Ijesha did not bear any sign of beating but defence lawyers may point to his torn shirt to push a position that he must have been harassed prior to the video being recorded.

Take home: Nigerians should stop fighting themselves over this issue. Baba Ijesha did a disgraceful and reprehensible act. He deserves all the opprobrium and outrage. He deserves a stiff punishment. But unlike us, law is patient and will act a mechanism for determining the case on the merits.

Protect your children from predators. Pay more attention to their emotional well-being. Be a parent your child can open up to. The girl child is not the only one endangered. Boys too are molested

Olusegun Obasanjo: A Prophet Despised By Muhammadu Buhari by Bolaji O. Akinyemi.

Obasanjo is a rigid but turgid Nationalist. He leaves no room for 2nd opinion where Nigeria is the subject especially when it comes to expressing his views on ethnic and tribal views that tend to divide us.

Baba, as he is fondly called, is one man who will not keep quiet when words are needed to address the state of the nation. Whatever he can't verbalize, he'll definitely put pen to paper.

In his letter to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in 2013 titled: *"Before It Is Too Late"*, Obasanjo literally engineered our change of Captain, the climax of which was the shreding of his PDP membership card, reminiscent of the prophetic act of Samuel's cloth that turned the Kingdom from Saul to David. Nigeria, from PDP was passed to APC and from GEJ to PMB.

From his tactical background and training as a military officer, Obasanjo warned us before the elections on the need never to re-inforce failure. But for whatever reason, he gave Buhari the benefit of the doubt and waited till after the elections to fan the flame & the flicker of hope in Buhari's re-election, with his  letter to the President. In the spirit of "es spirit de corps" and  like a senior colleague wishing for the success of his fellow General, he advised on how to lay out his duties to make the best of the class he was about to repeat.

Notwithstanding the candour, diplomacy and respect in which the tone of his letter was couched, Buhari's "attack dogs" in Femi Adesina particularly took Obasanjo to the cleaners. He seemed to have forgotten the Yoruba adage that says; "omode to ni enu agba nrun, ikoko ni o pa aja re je". The child that say the elder's mouth is smelling, that child's dog shall be devoured be wolfs.

Today we are faced with the consequences of an Elder Statesman's advice despised and ignored by some Nincompoops; "who must never rule us again" in the words of number 16, Pastor Tunde Bakare.

Regretebly, while Nigeria is burning Garba Shehu is still spewing garbage, Lai Mohammed is still lying and Femi is still flippant with words, all in the bid to justify their hire at the expense of the country.

"Ti omode ba subu, a wo iwaju, ti agba ba subu, a wo eyin wo", when a child falls, he looks forward, when an elder falls, he looks backwards; though, both actions are initiated by the need to investigate the causes of their falling. If for age, Adesina and Garba are looking forward and Lai Mohammed for inexperience at the level of leadership he finds himself is looking forward like the duo, it's high time General Muhammadu Buhari looked back. He may start by pausing to reflect on the wise counsel of his Senior colleague.

In a letter dated July 15, 2019, Obasanjo advised President Buhari to immediately address the increasing cases of insecurity in Nigeria to prevent it from escalating into a full-blown war.

If only Obasanjo's warning was considered worthy of consideration by his Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, may be, we wouldn't be here today. Any advice that could deliver a result better than this failure is worth going back to, even if from a perceived enemy.

"I am constrained to write to you this open letter", Obasanjo began. "I decided to make it an open letter because the issue is very weighty and must be greatly worrisome to all concerned Nigerians and that means all right-thinking Nigerians and those resident in Nigeria. Since the issue is of momentous concern to all well-meaning and all right-thinking Nigerians, it must be of great concern to you, and collective thinking and dialoguing is the best way of finding an appropriate and adequate solution  to  the problem. The contents of this letter, therefore, should be available to all those who can help in proffering effective solutions for the problem of insecurity in the land".

Obasanjo was pushed to write his epistle, by the memories of the event of 1966 that led to the civil  war. The issue Obasanjo said were very weighty and worrisome to all in July 2019 are so light to generate a push on President Muhammadu Buhari who in April 2021 warned bandits and Boko Haram not to push him to crush them. Buhari served the warning while death toll in farming community in Zamfara went up to 83 souls. A Hospital was raided in Kaduna and health workers were kidnapped. The Greenfield University also in Kaduna was visited with 23 Students kidnapped some of whom are daily killed by their abductors to forcefully press for ransome. 5 have been killed out of the innocent Students, whose sins and that of their parents along with all of was the failure to heed Obasanjo's warning never to reinforce failure.

Baba had more to say:
"One of the spinoffs and accelerants is the misinformation and disinformation through the use of fake news. A number of articles, in recent days, have been attributed to me by some people who I believe may be seeking added credence and an attentive audience for their opinions and view-points. As you know very well, I will always boldly own up to what I say and disown what is put into my mouth. But the issue I am addressing here is very serious; it is the issue of life and death for all of us and for our dear country, Nigeria. This issue can no longer be ignored, treated with nonchalance, swept under the carpet or treated with cuddling glove. The issue is hitting at the foundation of our existence as Nigerians and fast eroding the root of our Nigerian community. I am very much worried and afraid that we are on the precipice and dangerously reaching a tipping point where it may no longer be possible to hold danger at bay. Without being immodest, as a Nigerian who still bears the scar of the Nigerian civil war on my body and with a son who bears the scar of fighting Boko Haram on his body, you can understand, I hope, why I am so concerned. When people are desperate and feel that they cannot have confidence in the ability of government to provide security for their lives and properties, they will take recourse to anything and everything that can guarantee their security individually and collectively"
.
Obasanjo's counsel was counter productive. The issues were "puerile, small and insignificant" to bother Muhammadu Buhari who knew as Femi Adesina made us understand that he was jealous of Muhammadu Buhari's achievement of leveling up with him as the only two Nigerians who has been military head of State and elected President. The only record left for Obasanjo to boast about was the scar of his son at fighting Boko Haram, which is nothing more than the scar Yusuf sustained while serving us as the President's son through a bike accident. Many Nigerians have very bitter accounts and experiences of the insecurity in the land except those who benefit from it by trading in it, supplying arms to FRAUDSTARS, colluding with bandits and criminals to forment mayhem in the land. Though all hands must be on deck towards resolving these issues, the President and his lieutenant are comfortable with their hands under the deck to keep the issue escalating.

Obasanjo continued:
"For over ten years, four of which you have been the captain of the ship, Boko Haram has menacingly ravaged the land and in spite of government’s claim of victory over Boko Haram, the potency and the activities of Boko Haram, where they are active, remain undiminished, putting lie to government’s claim. The recent explanation of the Chief of Army Staff for non-victory due to lack of commitment and lack of motivation on the part of troops bordering on sabotage speaks for itself. Say what you will, Boko Haram is still a daily issue of insecurity for those who are victimised, killed, maimed, kidnapped, raped, sold into slavery and forced into marriage and for children forcibly recruited into carrying bombs on them to detonate among crowds of people to cause maximum destructions and damage. And Boko Haram will not go away on the basis of sticks alone, carrots must overweigh sticks. How else do you deal with issues such as only about 50% literacy in North-East with over 70% unemployment?"

Schools today are shut,  bringing to fulfilment of "BOKO HARAM", farmers will need military permission to go to the farm. The last time they did without one, over a hundred  of them were brought back in body bags. Massive sensitisation of the citizens is important, but Lai is still trading lies, and NCC is wallowing in propaganda. Channels TV can interview Boko Haram, go on visit with Sheikh Gumi to the wilderness of the bandits but IPOB must not be heard!

The Government that must continuously fish out the bad eggs in government who are leaking out the tactical and Strategic plans of government to Boko Haram just gave herself out as the real enabler of the ideology. Still Pantami had no case to answer over damming allegations bothering on terrorism. If the government is indeed sincere, with this type of development, external help should by now be sought before we are completely compromised.

Obasanjo had said:
"Herdsmen/farmers crises and menace started with government treating the issue with cuddling gloves instead of hammer. It has festered and spread. Today, it has developed into banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery and killings all over the country. The unfortunate  situation is that the criminality is being perceived as a ‘Fulani’ menace unleashed by Fulani elite in the different parts of the country for a number of reasons but even more unfortunately, many Nigerians and non-Nigerians who are friends of Nigeria attach vicarious responsibility to you as a Fulani elite and the current captain of the Nigeria ship. Perceptions may be as potent as reality at times. Whatever may be the grievances of Fulanis, if any, they need to be put out in the open and their grievances, if legitimate, be addressed; and if other ethnic groups have grievances, let them also be brought out in the open and addressed through debate and dialogue".

The issue of Herders/Farmers conflict is obviously a sinister follow up plan on the gain of insurgency. Their suicide bombing tactics and territorial occupation with hosting of flags was dropped for inflation of non Fulani farming communities all over Nigeria. Benue was badly hit, with countless murdered. The Middle Belt was invaded. Through Enugu provocatively, perceived, herdsmen sneaked upon the innocent and hard-working farmers of the South East region farms and disposed them of their lands. There had been peaceful herders before  but not anymore. This troublesome ones who are uncooperative and hostile to their host communities in blatant impunity are Buhari's gift to Nigeria. Government had been blind, deaf and dumb but the opressed people of affected communities seem ready to die or live. Government suddenly regained it's sight, but only to see that which they want to see. It has now become so bad that agitations for cecesion is now so loud all over the land!

"The main issue, if I may dare say", Obasanjo continued, "is poor management or mis-management of diversity which, on the other hand, is one of our greatest and most important assets. As a result, a very onerous cloud is gathering. And rain of destruction, violence, disaster and disunity can only be the outcome. Nothing should be taken for granted. The clock is ticking with the cacophony of dissatisfaction and disaffection everywhere in and outside the country. The Presidency and the Congress in the US have signalled to us to put our house in order. The House of Lords in the UK had debated the Nigerian security situation. We must understand and appreciate the significance, implication and likely consequences of such concerns and deliberations".

Those who refuse to allow peace will also not witness peace. Government's sincere actions is long overdue. It insincerity is also seen through not just by ethnic nationalities but by the International community who are bemused by "Pantami Gate". The needful should be done NOW!

"No one can stop hate speech, violent agitations and smouldering violent agitations if he fans the embers of hatred, disaffections and violence. It will continue to snowball until it is out of control. A stitcht in time saves nine, goes the old wise saying".

Action and reaction they say are equal and opposite, if hate speech are reaction on the side of the people, what are the actions of Government demanding equal measure of hate and opposition from the people. But our Government seems so intelligently lazy to probe itself for productivity. Being responsible too is very important. He who lives in a glass house must not throw stones. If you think you can speak, no matter how sincere you may think you are, you should be mindful of those gifted with hearing. Every move and efforts should be made to curb staff and apologists of government from promoting or festering hostilities. Many government officials connive with bandits to commit criminal acts. Some others have commercialised information from government, trading it with bandits. It is painful that government looks on, in each of the cases of kidnap till matters get out of hand. Leah Sharibu, CHIBOK girls, Daura, Katsina kidnap; and others followed the same pattern, without any communication interception till date is fear of Pantami's handling of Communications Ministry and Digital Economy not justified.

"With the death of Funke, Chief Fasoranti’s daughter, some sympathetic Nigerian groups are saying “enough is enough”. Prof. Anya, a distinguished  Nigerian merit Award Laureate, has this to say “We can no longer say with certainty that we have a nation”. Niger-Delta leaders, South-Eastern leaders, Middle-Belt leaders and Northern Elders Forum have not remained quiet. Different, ordinary Nigerians at home and abroad are calling for different measures to address or ameliorate the situation. All the calls and cries can only continue to be ignored at the expense of Nigerian unity, if not its continued existence".

Funke, was about the beginning of strategic personality taken down which was aimed at demoralising other ethnic nationalities by the Fulani marauders. Alhaji Fatai Yusuf, popularly known as Oko Oloyun was murdered in what looked like Fulani herdsmen killing signature. In the same axis of Oyo State, an illustrious son of Igangan a medical doctor based in Germany returned home to make investment in Agriculture employing thousands of his people. Fulani grazed their herds on his farm and when he protested his life was taken the blood bond of tribal mark on his cheeks and that of Sunday Adeyemo AKA Sunday Igboho is today an agitation the Federal Government will do well to attend to and not forcefully react to.

"To be explicit and without equivocation, Mr. President and General, I am deeply worried about four avoidable calamities:

*1.* Abandoning Nigeria into the hands of criminals who are all being suspected, rightly or wrongly, as Fulanis and terrorists of Boko Haram type;

*2.* Spontaneous or planned reprisal attacks against Fulanis which may inadvertently or advertently mushroom into pogrom or Rwanda-type genocide that we did not believe could happen and yet it happened;

*3.* Similar attacks against any other tribe or ethnic group anywhere in the country initiated by rumours, fears, intimidation and revenge capable of leading to pogrom;

*4.* violent uprising beginning from one section of the country and spreading quickly to other areas and leading to dismemberment of the country".

We will do ourselves a lot of favour if we will look critically and clinically at Obasanjo's four points of worry for avoidable calamities which he explicitly suggested.

Obasanjo further warned; "It happened to Yugoslavia not too long ago. If we do not act now, one or all of these scenarios may happen. We must pray and take effective actions at the same time. The initiative is in the hands of the President of the nation, but he cannot do it alone.
In my part of the world, if you are sharpening your cutlass and a mad man comes from behind to take the cutlass from you, you need other people’s assistance to have your cutlass back without being harmed. The mad men with serious criminal intent and terrorism as core value have taken cutlass of security. The need for assistance to regain control is obviously compelling and must be embraced now".

Like the mad man in OBJ's story the global madness of terrorism for which the world is yet to find lasting solution, came behind our Government and took hold of our cutlass. The alleged alliance of Sheikh Isa Pantami with terrorists and link with terrorism demand a call to the rest of the world to help us retrieve our data from the hands of International terrorism networks such as Al-Qaeda and others which Pantami is known to celebrate.

A couple of weeks ago at a public lecture, I had said, among other things, that:

“In all these issues of mobilisation for national unity, stability, security, cooperation, development, growth and progress, there is no consensus. Like in the issue of security, government should open up discussion, debate and dialogue as part of consultation at different levels and the outcome of such deliberations should be collated to form inputs into a national conference to come up with the solution that will effectively deal with the issues and lead to rapid development, growth and progress which will give us a wholesome society and enhanced living standard and livelihood in an inclusive and shared society. It will be a national programme. We need unity of purpose and nationally accepted strategic roadmap that will not change with the whims and caprices of any government. It must be owned by the citizens, people’s policy and strategy implemented by the government no matter its colour and leaning.

Some of the groups that I will suggest to be contacted are: traditional rulers, past heads of Security services (no matter how competent or incompetent they have been and how much they have contributed to the mess we are in), past heads of para-military organisations, the private sector, civil societies, community leaders particularly in the most affected areas, present and past governors, present and past local government leaders, religious leaders, past Heads of State, past intelligence chiefs, past Heads of Civil Service and relevant current and retired diplomats, members of opposition and any groups that may be deemed relevant.

The President must be seen to be addressing this issue with utmost seriousness and with maximum dispatch and getting all hands on deck to help. If there is failure, the principal responsibility will be that of the President and no one else. We need cohesion and concentration of effort and maximum force – political, economic, social, psychological and military - to deal successfully with the menace of criminality and terrorism separately and together. Blame game among own forces must be avoided. It is debilitating and only helpful to our adversary. We cannot dither anymore. It is time to confront this threat headon and in a manner that is holistic, inclusive and purposeful".

Obasanjo concluded his epistles with the following prayers: "For the sake of Nigeria and Nigerians, I pray that God may grant you, as our President, the wisdom, the understanding, the political will and the courage to do what is right when it is right and without fear or favour. May God save, secure, protect and bless Nigeria. May He open to us a window of opportunity that we can still use to prevent the worst happening.

The President must rise to correct the notion many hold of the impotence of his power daily proven by the unchecked impunity of the outlaws and the non state actors. If our President won't save us from his tribe the world should please arise for our help before we are wiped out. God forbid!

PRESS RELEASE: ATIKU’S CITIZENSHIP: AGF MALAMI BLINDED BY 2023 PRESIDENTIAL AMBITION.

In accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Attorney General of the federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami is expected to be the Chief Law officer of the entire nation.

As the Attorney General of the Federation, it becomes a huge source of concern when the occupant of the exalted office is acting as if he is the Attorney General of the ruling APC.

For Malami to join the suit filed by a hurriedly put together group known as Trustees of Egalitarian Mission for Africa (EMA) begs the question as to what the interest of Malami the AGF is.

The suit before the court challenging the citizenship of Atiku Abubakar, it would be recalled, has been exhaustively dealt with by the Court of Appeal and same affirmed by the Supreme Court at the final judgment during the Presidential election petition tribunal.

It is therefore laughable and inconceivable to see the Attorney General of the Federation putting his weight behind such an exercise in futility.

For the avoidance of doubt, Atiku's Nigeria’s citizenship is a settled matter, and anything contrary to that is a figment of Malami’s warped imagination.

However, it must be expressly stated that Malami’s action is predicated on his ambition to run for the office of the President to take over from Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

This inordinate ambition of Malami can be glimpsed from how desperately he moved against some of his own party men who have indicated interest to run against him in the APC, but ultimately, Atiku Abubakar is seen as the biggest threat hence this heinous move to stop the former Vice President.

But we have no doubt that this plot shall fail. Malami’s belief that he can use his position as the chief law officer and the instrumentality of the courts to achieve his vaulting ambition will also collapse on his face.

We urge the courts not to allow itself to be a pawn in the hands of AGF Malami, even as we ask Nigerians to speak up and rise against this evil machination as it is capable of denying them (Nigerians) the much-needed good governance that would be brought by Atiku Abubakar when, God willing he is elected into the office of the President come 2023.

PRESS RELEASE ON THE USE OF HIJAAB IN MISSION SCHOOLS IN KWARA STATE.

History/Background

The C & S College, Sabo-Oke, Ilorin owned by C & S Church World wide was established on the 2nd February, 1969 to take care of the educational development of the youths and our Children.

Aims & Objectives

To improve the educational standard of the Children with the aim to inculcate moral and discipline in them to ensure their proper unbringing among others.

Maintenance

Ever since the establishment of the College, the Church had been maintaining the School both the buildings and the structures.
Equally, Individuals and the Church erected the present structures on the College, a pointer that no government presence had been felt on the College. For many years, government had not erected any structure.

Grant Aid from Government

The grant aid by government started in 1974, and we need to state that ever since then, government had no hand in the maintenance except the payment of salary.

Agreement on the aid

It was agreed that the Church will be responsible for the appointment of Principal, Vice Principal etc and also decide on Dress code ie School uniforms including beret.

Our tolerance

The School it will be recalled had produced notable and credible Nigerians who are Muslims who were never converted or forced to embrace our faith.

Our Demands

1. We vehemently say No hijaab in our mission schools.

2. The Church is demanding that Government should give us back our Schools to forestall unnecessary trespass capable of leading to breakdown of law and order in the State.

3. We like to reiterate that we have our Church on the College compound hence the use of hijaab will cause disunity.

4. It suffice to state that moral values that the Church is noted for and which prompted the establishment of the College is seriously being eroded necessitated the desire to take over our College.

Conclusion

We like to emphasis that we are peace loving group and will continue to toll that line and that will not stop us from asking and demanding for our right.
We appreciate the efforts of Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq administration in finding lasting and amicable solution to the issue.
We urge the government to revise its decision in the interest of peace.

Thank you all for your attention.

God bless you.

His Grace Most Reverend Prophet Samuel A. Abidoye
